The QISS Lower School Open House was last night, and it was a great success! Thank you very much to all parents who were able to attend. For those who could not make it to the Open House, I have posted the Grade 2 Open House Prezi below. Please take a look! To begin Unit 1, Grade 2 had a Mexican Fiesta! In Unit 1, we have been studying different cultures and communities. My father is from Mexico, so I shared my Mexican culture with Grade 2 right here at QISS! Fiesta means party in Spanish. The students all tried some Mexican food, displaying the courage to try new things! While they ate, I shared some of Mexico's culture in a presentation on the smart board. We also listened to some Mexican music! In the afternoon, the students made maracas, which are Mexican musical instruments. They were able to color them and make them special! We also made some papel picado, which means chopped paper in Spanish. Papel picado is often used as decoration for fiestas in Mexico. Grade 2 had a lot of fun learning about and experiencing some Mexican culture. Here are the students shaking their maracas: Here is the Prezi about Mexico: This year, Grade 2 will use a behavior management system called Class Dojo. The students are given instant feedback on their behavior, both positive and negative. Parents are able to review their child's behavior at home through the Class Dojo website (a permanent link to Class Dojo has been added to the Links page). Here are the "Positive" and "Needs work" feedback options that we are currently using in Grade 2. The teacher is able to edit these so they match up with the Grade 2 and QISS rules and goals. Students can receive positive points when they demonstrate the ESLRs found in our Class Mission. Class Dojo also has a great Messaging system that allows teachers to send out messages to all parents. Teachers and parents can also message each other privately with questions or comments at any time! The students enjoy being able to create their own Class Dojo monster avatar, and they are able to make changes to them whenever they would like. So far Class Dojo has been a great motivational tool for Grade 2, inspiring them to always do their best! We will set monthly goals for the class as a whole to improve their school behavioral habits. Let's keep up the great work, Grade 2!
Hello everyone! This section of the website will be updated regularly with information about what Grade 2 has been doing at school, along with pictures and the occasional video. Feel free to post comments, and encourage the students in Grade 2 to continue their hard work! We are off to a great start to our first unit! Look for more blog posts soon about all of the cool things Grade 2 is studying in Unit 1. Grade 2 has been learning a great deal in their other classes as well, including Art, Music, P.E., Library, and Chinese. We are on track for a fantastic school year!
